MCA Introduces New Tagline to Enhance Identity, Communicate Purpose

April 23, 2013, Glenview, IL The Metal Construction Association (MCA) has unveiled a new tagline to enhance its brand identity and communicate its purpose and position in the industry. The tagline -- BUILD LEGACIES: METAL -- adds an aspirational element to the MCA brand.

The new tagline is the result of collaboration between an MCA Board-appointed Brand Task Force made up of member volunteers and association staff. The task force recognized the importance of taking an aspiratational stance with the tagline that would appeal to each of MCAs core audiences: architects, building owners and members of the metal construction industry.

"As the association went through this branding exercise, the theme of legacies ran through the conversations. When we think about what MCA and its member companies stand for, building legacies quickly came to the forefront," said Todd Miller, Board Chair of MCA and President of Isaiah Industries, Inc. "The products and services that MCA member companies provide become part of our culture and landscape, and because of the many performance and aesthetic characteristics inherent in metal roofs and walls, they create a legacy that can last for generations."

BUILD LEGACIES: METAL was chosen as the MCA tagline also because it speaks clearly and concisely to each of the associations target audiences: architects, building owners, and even MCA members and industry partners. Architects seek to create legacies of inspiration through design that will be attractive and functional for years to come. Building owners create legacies through the high-performing buildings that they build and maintain. And MCA and its member companies build legacies of partnerships and collaboration through the association and its efforts.

MCA, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2013, has already begun to leverage its new brand identity on its website, metalcontstruction.org, as well as in other communications. MCA aims to fully integrate its new brand over the coming months, culminating in the launch of a new website in Fall, 2013.

The Metal Construction Association brings together a diverse industry for the purpose of expanding the use of metal in construction through marketing, research and technology and education. Companies involved in MCA gain tremendous benefit from association activities that focus on research, codes and standards, market development, and technical programs. MCAs market development efforts increase the use of metal materials in construction through the education of the building and design communities about the benefits of metal.

METALCON Introduces Metal in Action

April 9, 2013, Newton MA  - Each year METALCON International introduces new concepts. The latest for the 23rd METALCON is an innovative demonstration arena called Metal in Action. This expanded demo area inside the exhibit hall is interactive and combines the best of the Metal Construction Association's Residential and Commercial Roofing Demos, Solar Bay Live, and Tool Day. With plenty of seating, tables and bleachers, the Metal in Action arena serves as a touchdown where attendees can learn from these demos in a comfortable setting.

We formed Metal in Action by capturing input from presenters and attendees and acting on it. This new set up allows all presenters to show more detailed techniques. For the MCA demos, it leaves in place the full size mock ups of roof applications so attendees can view them up close any time during show hours, notes METALCON Show Director Claire Kilcoyne.

METALCON International is the only annual conference and exposition focused on metal construction products, technologies and solutions. The 2013 event takes place October 1-3 at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta, GA.

The Solar Bay Live portion of Metal in Action offers a different keynote presentation each day that focuses on greater detail of specific techniques used to install solar and metal combinations. Were especially excited about the solar part of the mix because it gives attendees more time to absorb all the details of how and why metal and solar are such a good match, adds Kilcoyne.  Solar Bay has been a hot spot at METALCON since it was introduced in 2009 and has provided a lively forum for encouraging the installation of solar systems on metal roofs and metal walls.

The tools demo in the arena expands the reach of METALCONs Tool Day from a single-day focus to a three-day bonus to learn about and test the latest tools for use with metal. This year tools will be demonstrated and available continuously each show day during exhibit hours.

METALCON is produced by Newton, MA-based PSMJ Resources, Inc. and sponsored by the Metal Construction Association. MCA is an organization of leading manufacturers and suppliers headquartered in Glenview, IL.  PSMJ is the worlds leading authority on the effective management of architecture, engineering and construction firms.

Specialists from the Metal Construction Association and other industry related associations also present the latest applications and field techniques in daily demonstrations in the exhibit hall.

Plans for the 2013 METALCON are well under way with more than 85% of booth space filled and expansion of the education format that shifts from a traditional 1.5-hour multiple-track program to longer 3-hour sessions tailored to specific disciplines. Modified successfully for the 2012 program, the new format offers more indepth learning opportunities both in the classroom and in the exhibit hall.

MCA Welcomes Alucoil North America, Hill Architectural Systems and Northclad as Members

March 4, 2013, Glenview, IL -- The Metal Construction Association welcomes three additional companies to its membership. Alucoil North America of Manning, SC; Hill Architectural Systems of Franklin Park, IL; and NorthClad Rainscreen Systems of Everett, WA joined the ranks of the approximately 80 member companies with specialties in the metal construction industry.

Alucoil North America manufactures aluminum composite panels (ACM) for building and construction applications such as wall cladding, signage, and corporate imaging design. It is part of the Alucoil S.A. business group, based in Miranda de Ebro, Spain, a manufacturer of high-tech aluminum products for building & construction, transportation, and industrial applications.

"What appealed to us (about joining MCA), as a newer domestic manufacturer of an established product, was the fact that we would be able to immediately become involved in important decisions affecting our industry, our products, and our customers," said Samuel Chastain, vice president and general manager for Alucoil.

"We saw immediate value in taking part in white papers and other industry guidance efforts which benefit both metal composite product manufacturers and fabricators, and set standards to which we all refer to with a unified voice.  Also, the forum MCA presents where product manufacturers like ourselves, our suppliers, and MCM fabricators can all discuss issues openly is invaluable.   These, as well as the technical resources available to assist with complicated issues such as building codes, made it a necessity in our minds to join the MCA," said Chastain.

Hill Architectural Systems, a new division of The Hill Group, offers design, installation and fabrication of metal enclosures for buildings such as exterior metal panels, louvers, curtain wall systems and custom metal roofs.

"Hill Architectural Systems looks forward to our membership with the MCA," said Ryan Stojkovich, vice president of business development. "This national peer group setting is a terrific way for our newly formed division at The Hill Group to collaborate with other leading companies in the metal industry."

"We are driving our business to leverage 3D design and BIM coordination.  We believe that MCA is truly starting to shine a light on these relatively new technologies and practices, specific to enclosure scopes of work, with focused events and seminars.  We very much want to be a part of this effort," said Stojkovich.

NorthClad Rainscreen Solutions is a division of Northshore Sheet Metal and provides engineered exterior wall cladding systems in a variety of color, material, and finish options and are designed for simple, straight forward utilization.

"We felt that joining MCA would give us an excellent chance to support the industry and network with top senior level industry people," said Dave Killian, general manager of Northclad. "We are looking forward to staying informed about NFPA 285."

Editor's note: The NFPA 285 test is for exterior cladding assemblies that contain combustible elements.  By successfully meeting the performance criteria of this test, and several additional tests, a combustible cladding assembly may be used where noncombustible construction is typically required by code.

The Metal Construction Association (MCA) is an organization of manufacturers and suppliers whose metal wall and roofing components are used in buildings throughout North America. The association's mission is to grow the use of metal through market development, education, technical programs, and selective action on public policies that affect the use of metal in building projects.

MCA's next meeting is the 2013 Semi-Annual Meeting, set for June 24-26 in Raleigh, NC.
